On May 28, 2024, the Clinical Pathology Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University held a Guest Lecture with the theme “Donor and Patient Safety in Transfusion”. This event was held online and attended by students of the Clinical Pathology Specialist Education Program. The main resource person on this occasion was Dr. dr. Teguh Triyono, M.Kes, Sp.PK., Subsp.B.D.K.T (K), Subsp.K.V. (K) from the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Gadjah Mada, a consultant specialist in the field of Blood Bank and Transfusion Medicine and serves as Vice Chairman I of PDS PatKLin Central Board.
This activity aims to improve the competence of students in the field of Blood Bank and Transfusion Medicine, especially in the safety aspect for donors and transfusion recipient patients. Dr. Teguh Triyono delivered a very comprehensive material on the importance of safe transfusion and the risks that may occur to both donors and recipients. Some of the risks discussed include hematoma, bleeding, inflammation, iron deficiency, hyperventilation to SAED (Serious Adverse Effect Donation).
Dr. Teguh explained that safe transfusion includes several important aspects, such as the use of appropriate blood components, the presence of qualified donor officers, the correct blood transfusion process, and good communication between donors and donor officers. In addition, special attention should also be paid to side effects that may arise due to transfusion.
After the presentation session, the event continued with a discussion session moderated by dr. Dian Widyaningrum, Sp.PK, M.K.M. The participants were very enthusiastic in this session, asking various questions and discussing in depth about the material that had been presented.
The activity ended with a group photo online. This Guest Lecture is expected to provide deeper insight and knowledge for students, so that they can apply the knowledge gained in daily clinical practice, especially in ensuring security and safety in the blood transfusion process.
